FutureX

Project Overview

FutureX is a cryptocurrency website that aims to revolutionize the world of digital finance. As a user-centric platform, FutureX provides a seamless and secure experience for cryptocurrency enthusiasts, investors, and traders alike.

Role

  • UX/UI Design

  • User Research

Problem

Cryptocurrency transactions are often considered complex and confusing by users, leading to errors, security risks, and frustration. The goal of this UX case study is to improve the usability of cryptocurrency transactions by simplifying the process, enhancing security, and providing a more intuitive user experience.

The Process

1

Brainstorming & Research

This stage involves gathering information about the target audience, market trends, and user needs. This will be done by performing user research, interviews, and competitive analysis to understand user behaviors, pain points, and preferences. This research forms the foundation for the design decisions that follow.

User Interviews

Interviews was conducted with users aged 18-30, regardless of their knowledge of Crypto. The interview was performed in-person, on average lasting 15 minutes in order to obtain primary data.

Key Insights:

  • Wallet management complexity.

  • Beginner option for new traders.

  • Lack of educational resources.

“What Crypto Currencies do I own?”

“I’m completely overwhelmed.”

“I’m confused due to a lack of knowledge.”

Empathy Map

After analyzing the data, I synthesized the findings into manageable reference points, beginning with an empathy map. Created from interviews, secondary research and observational analysis, the empathy map helped contextualize future users' encounters with FutureX.

Persona

User personas put the focus on real people, ensuring that design decisions are centered around meeting the actual needs and wants of users.

Name: Harry

Age: 27

Occupation: Civil Engineer

A peek into Harry’s life

Harry started his investment journey a few years after securing a stable job as a civil engineer. He believes in diversification and has already invested in traditional avenues such as stocks, bonds, and real estate. His financial discipline and consistent saving habits have allowed him to build a comfortable nest egg that he's eager to expand.

Lately, Harry has been hearing a lot about cryptocurrency and its potential for substantial returns. He's intrigued by the technology behind it and the stories of people who made significant profits through crypto investments. As a result, he’s looking for a Crypto “beginner friendly” platform.

Competitive Analysis

Analyzed popular cryptocurrency platforms to identify common usability patterns, best practices, areas where competitors have successfully addressed user concerns and potential gaps in the market where a new demographic can be reached. Based on the analysis, it was determined that competitors didn’t have educational resources & beginner options simultaneously.

The Design Process

Low & Mid fidelity wireframes were drafted to map out the functionality of the pages, provide clarity and define the website.

Improvements + additional designs

Improvements were made to increase visibility, consistency and readability.

Glassmorphism is the stylistic choice used throughout FutureX. This allowed for:

  • Greater depth and enhance visual hierarchy.

  • Bright, vivid colors that contrast with the semi-transparent elements.

  • Better use of subtle light and shadows.

Wallet management complexity was another issue that was tackled. In order to solve this I used:

  • Clear whitespace & seperation outlining the total balance.

  • Pie chart illustrating various coins the user has invested in, accompanied by muted colors. The choice of colors depicted emotions of serenity, and calmness, which proved to reduce users being overwhelmed.

The decision to add educational resources (Learn) as its own section - highlighted the importance. It was imperative that users are able to learn as a beginner and advanced user.

Following this point, an advanced trading option would be available for users who decide to “Switch to advanced” under the settings option. This option will allow users to spot and margin trade. Beginner users will be able to perform basic crypto exchanges.

Final Designs

Style guide

The stylistic choice of a dark background not only adds a touch of sophistication but also reduces eye strain for users during extended periods of engagement. It sets the stage for the vibrant elements, such as bold and contrasting colors, which not only capture attention but also symbolize the dynamism & innovation of the cryptocurrency world. This combination not only provides a visually striking user experience but also emphasizes our dedication to making complex crypto concepts more accessible. Just as cryptocurrencies merge innovation with stability, our design amalgamates elegance with vibrancy, creating a captivating and immersive environment for our users to explore and learn about the exciting realm of digital currencies.

Reflection

One of the primary goals of FutureX was to prioritize user experience (UX) and design. We knew that the complexity of cryptocurrencies could be overwhelming for newcomers, so we focused on creating an intuitive and visually appealing interface. 2 weeks was placed as a time constraint, given more time, additional features would have been implemented such as:

  1. Social Trading Platform - Enables users to follow successful traders, view their portfolios, and even replicate their trades.

  2. Virtual Trading Simulator - An environment where users can practice trading with virtual currency before risking their real assets.

  3. One-Click Diversification - Allows users to diversify their portfolio with a single click, automatically distributing their investments across a selection of cryptocurrencies
